Fuksman, Yoysef
December 28, 1905–January 16, 1977
The brother of Shloyme Fuksman, he was born in Baranovitsh, Russia. He studied in yeshivas and on his own. Until WWII he lived in Warsaw where he served as chairman of Brit Hatsahar (Zionist Revisionists).
During the Nazi occupation, he was confined in the Vilna ghetto, organizer of the underground movement. He was deported to concentrations camps in Austria.
He contributed to the Jewish documentation center in Austria. He came to New York in 1949. From 1962 he was a contributor to the publications concerning Holocaust bibliography.
He debuted in print with articles in 1927 in Baranovitsher vokh (Baranovitsh week), and he later became a regular contributor to: Baranovitsher Kuryer (Baranovitsh Courier), Baranovitsher Lebn (Baranovitsh Life), and Bloy-Vays (Blue-White [also its editor]) in Baranovitsh (1932-1935).
After WWII he wrote for: Unzer Tsil (Our Goal) in Lints; and Hamedina (The State) in Austria; among others. He edited: Baranovitsh in Umkum un Vidershtand (Baranovitsh in Death and Resistance), vol. 1 (New York, 1964), 110 pp.; Kamf un Umkum in 20 Shtet un Shtetlekh in Vaysrusland (Struggle and Death in Twenty Cities and Towns in Byelorussia) (New York, 1966), 110 pp.
He died in New York.
